Hot and Spicy

Green curry, red curry, chicken satay and Thai ice coffee are the only things I craved during the winter season. Hot and spicy foods help you stay warm in this cold rainy weather so I decided to go to Thai Chef. Thai Chef is located only a half-block from Castro St. on 18th street makes it a convenient Thai spot. Thai dish reflects the characteristics of Thai’s culture, tradition and lifestyle.  Meat, herbs, spices and vegetables are major ingredients for their cuisine. Large chunks of meat were cut and laced with herbs and spices. I am here to talk about another food spot that you should definitely try when you visit the Castro.
The restaurant has a great setting, waiters greet you promptly and usher you to a table. It tends to get busy during lunch and dinner time, so you might have to wait in order to get a table. The waiters are fast in cleaning the table after the customer finished with their meals and ready to leave. The waiters then step up the table with new utensils and accommodate the new diners. I want to go over their menu with you but the menu is overwhelming at first; there are so many choices to choose from. There are about 13 choices for appetizers and 30 to 40 more for the main dishes.
The menu has three choices of meats to go along with their main dishes. They had chicken, beef and shrimp. The price is very affordable and they also offer lunch combination meal for those who want to eat a complete meal. The lunch combinations are cheap it ranges from $8 to $10. The combination meals come with plain steam rice, a house salad, soup, and two different entries from their list. I usually order the lunch combo because it is cheaper and it’s a lot of food. The portions were respectable and definitely worth what I paid for. I had the Green Curry with chicken, string beans, and bamboo shoots. Also, I had the chicken basil with ground chicken, bamboo shoots, red and green peppers. The garlic rice was amazing but they charged an extra $ 1. My friend said the ginger rice is also delicious. Shredded gingers are cooked together with the rice to enhance the flavor. For desserts, I tried the fried banana ice cream. The fried banana is coated with melted brown sugar and deep fried. They also put vanilla ice cream for the toppings. Last but not the least, the Thai ice coffee is also well made you can taste the roasted coffee beans mixed with sweet milk. It is made with perfection.

I had a good experience at Thai chef. The waiters were accommodating and friendly. They deserved the 15% tip; the services from the staffs were excellent and exceptional. The price was affordable and ok. You will not regret going there. It was not the best, authentic Thai food I've ever had, but I would go back for a nice, inexpensive meal. In addition, I just noticed that they offer delivery between 5 to 10 pm.
